The paper is in very good condition, with high rag content.
It was carefully removed from a volume;
there is a three inch split at the center of the spine.
No text is missing.
There are no marks, tears or damage.
As it was
Christmas Day
, there is an editorial on that topic.
There’s also a brief report from Baltimore
that mail delivery failed that day due to noisy throngs in the streets.
There is major coverage regarding the visit
of the
Hungarian Liberator Lajos Kossuth.
He was presented with a gold medal
containing a likeness of Washington
and a lock of his hair.
Abolitionists greeted him as a fellow liberator
for securing the freedom of the serfs.
The reported the
fire at the Library of Congress
was reported extensively. All in the main room was lost.
The extinguishing of the fire is told in detail—
securing the water, the fire engines,
and the joining in of  “all classes of people” to help in the effort.
News of California
was surely of interest,
so soon after the peak of the
Gold Rush.
Lengthy descriptions are given of mines, politics,
health and disease, saloons, theaters and amusements,
crime, Indians finances and more.
The paper has
8 pages.
Each is 22” by 15”.
It's in excellent condition with no marks and a few minor tears.
It is soft with a high rag content.
