  • Condition: This is in original as-found condition. Please see the sample photos to judge content and condition for yourself. Condition is fair for a paper item that's over a century old. There is some expected tattering along the edges, quite a lot of splitting at fold intersections and along fold edges, moderate browning, etc. The front cover is split better than halfway across the horizontal crease. Obviously, this newspaper needs very delicate handling to survive in one piece. Please see the photos to judge for yourself. What you see is what you'll get.

Offered here is the antique 114-year-old Laporte Republican News Item newspaper shown, offering local news and many interesting historic ads,
As was the custom of the era, almost all of the local news was presented in one-paragraph items about who visited who, etc. There's even a Bernice column composed of the same.
The many ads give a view of the are, it's stores and ther local tannery the way a history book can't, this newspaper being an actual piece of the distant past. It captured a snapshot of a very specific time and what was making news in the town then.
This four-page newspaper is a broadsheet, the front page measuring 15x22". The newspaper will come to you quarter folded as found.
Please excuse my photography. My camera is just not up to capturing the small detail here. Rest assured the original is clear.
The photos at the top of this page can be enlarged by hovering the cursor over them, while those below can be enlarged by zooming via the three dots in the upper right of the screen.
